Joe Eko: won his first fight
BOXING:
JOE Eko burst on to the amateur boxing scene with a clinical stoppage victory in his first scheduled bout.
The 20 year old from Oldham only joined head coach Ben Lancaster at the Boarshaw Gym eight months ago, but already shows plenty of promise.
Lancaster said: “So far Joe has been brilliant. During these last eight months he’s worked ever so hard, and lost four and a half stone.
“I felt he was ready to make his debut. His original opponent pulled out, and when I found out his replacement had won four out of six bouts already, I was apprehensive.
“I needn’t have been, though. Joe won the first round well, then in the second a cracking body shot floored his opponent and he failed to make the eight-count.
“Joe is still chuffed with his result, and now we’ll work towards him hopefully making even more progress next season.”
