WERNETH and Royton continued their charge towards promotion from the Lake Garage Central Lancashire League Championship on Saturday - but it was third-placed Crompton’s overseas amateur Denis Louis who was the big star of the weekend.
The big St Lucia ace cracked a superb club amateur record knock of 167 (not 169 as the scoreboard claimed) as his side beat weary Oldham by 128 runs at a baking hot Glebe Street.
Taking first knock, Crompton made hay on their peach of a pitch as Stephen Wright also chipped in with 30 in a huge total of 293 for six.
Oldham replied bravely in the searing heat, but three wickets apiece for Ryan Mayes and professional Michael Pote saw the visitors dismissed for 165.
Werneth continued their march at the top of the table with a routine victory at rock-bottom Ashton.
Batting first, Werneth totalled 225 all out against a reply of 174 all out.
Royton also eased to victory on their travels at Radcliffe and remain in second place, a clutch of points clear of in-form Crompton.
Royton fielded first at Radcliffe, with the home side being eventually dismissed for 185.
Royton cruised to a six-wicket victory, with professional Ben Dunk top-scoring with a tidy 50.
In the remaining Championship fixture, Monton and Weaste hosted Unsworth and won by 32 runs as their professional Paul Green took four wickets.
