GYMNASTICS:
TWELVE-year-old trampolining hope Alfie Astley suffered mixed emotions at the British National Championships in Birmingham.
The Hulme Grammar School pupil made it to the national finals after finishing third in his group at a qualifying gala.
At Birmingham Alfie competed in the under-13s boys category and his initial routine gave him fourth place and a spot in the following day’s medal decider.
But Alfie, from Chadderton, crashed during his fourth move and finished ninth.
Consolation came when he joined City of Salford club colleagues Daniel Lee and Adam Phillips to win a gold medal in the double-mini trampette competition.
