ANGLING: FAILSWORTH anglers Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) and grandson James Cantello (Tri-Cast) are having a great season so far picking up prizes also every week.

In the Wigan Open on the Maghull length of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, Power took third with an all small roach catch taken on bread punch followed by Cantello’s almost identical net that weighed 3lb 3oz and also fell to punch with both only beaten by bream weights.

Sunday saw them on Old Hough Farm Fishery where Cantello took third on Upper Benbo Lake with 33lb 8oz of carp taken on a 14-metre pole and pellet.

Power drew on Lower Benbo where he also made it into the money with a second-placed 31lb 7oz of ide and four f1s that fell to a 17-metre pole and pellet.

TODMORDEN AS fished the latest of their Tuesday evening series matches on Townhouse Fishery where John Mellor topped the weights with the 23lb 6oz of carp, beating Stan Buckley into second with 20lb 7oz.

MONARCH fished their latest Thursday evening match on the club water and as usual the weights were excellent with Neil Hardy needing 32lb 12oz of ide, roach and skimmers that fell to maggot fished up in the water.

Chris Quinlan took second with pellet working well to the tune of 32lb 2oz of skimmers, chub and roach.

TODMORDEN AS is running two taster sessions on the Smithybridge length of the Rochdale canal.

The sessions take place tomorrow and July 27. All tackle, bait and licences will be provided free of charge. To book one of the 45-minute sessions phone 01706 924802.

The sessions are all one-to-one, so reserving a time slot is imporant.

THE Todmorden AS junior match was fished on Croft where the under-12 section was won by Scott Wilkinson with a silverfish net weighing 3lb 14oz.

The under-16 section was won by Jack Riley with his 15lb 3oz net mostly made up of carp taken on the tip and meat.

CAIRO AC have now got more pegs available after a weeding party at Denshaw Vale proved successful.

The water is fishing really well with some good bream being caught.
