CRICKET: FORM team Glodwick are on course for their best finish in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

The Warren Lane side has got its sights on a top three finish — its previous best was fourth, in 2010.

Nine wins from the club’s previous 10 league matches suggest they could well achieve their aim.

A visit to Holebottom Clough is next for Nigel Stock’s men, and he is keen to keep his side’s feet firmly on the ground.

“We’ve got Shaw tomorrow, followed by Hollinwood and Stayley, and this is when we’re at our most vulnerable,” said Stock.

“All team aims for consistency and we’re on a good run with plenty of players performing.

“It was a big win last weekend against Uppermill and hopefully we can carry it on.”

The four-wicket win over Uppermill was without all-rounder Imran Asghar, who has joined

ex-Stayley and Delph professional Bilal Khiljee at Shelley in the Drakes Huddersfield League.

Seamer Franco Lenhardt stepped up and took two for 52, while Rehan Rafiq produced his usual consistent display with three wickets and 63 runs.

The Pakistani pro has again shown his worth to Glodwick this season with a batting average of over 40.

Stock said: “Rehan is perfect for us and a big part of our success. He rarely fails to get 30 or 40 runs and more often than not goes on to a bigger score.

“His bowling is very good as well.”

Glodwick will need to be wary of an improving Shaw team, who pushed Tanner Cup finalists Moorside all the way recently before succumbing to a narrow defeat.

Leaders Bamford Fieldhouse are at home to Austerlands tomorrow — seven days after taking over top spot. Previous incumbents Heyside go to Friarmere, who snatched defeat from the jaws of victory last weekend when they lost their last five wickets for only four when they required 15 to win.
