IN FORM: Werneth’s Matt Taylor struck a neat 49 in last weekend’s win at Ashton.
CRICKET: WERNETH are set to take another step towards promotion tomorrow.
The Lake Garage Central Lancashire League Championship pace-setters are already 12 points clear of second-placed Royton (20 ahead of third-placed Crompton) so they will be confident of maximum points against struggling Monton and Weaste.
Supporters at The Coppice have enjoyed a terrific season so far and with a top two place in the table guaranteed, elevation to the Premier Division in 2014 seems certain.
Last weekend the table-toppers breezed to a 51-run victory at Ashton with pro Mohammed Zaman Khan hitting 79 and Matt Taylor 49.
Monton and Weaste have won only four times this season - one of them last Saturday against Unsworth.
Denny Hulme’s ROYTON must try to keep the pressure on Werneth on what promises to be another sizzling day, and they too will strongly fancy their chances of another victory against Ashton.
Royton have the man in form in their ranks – Aussie professional Ben Dunk, who scored another half-century last weekend in a routine six-wicket victory against Radcliffe.
CROMPTON are another side with a man in good nick; this time West Indian wicketkeeper Denis Louis.
Carl Taylor’s men head to Unsworth tomorrow with the 22-year-old St Lucia ace hoping to build on last weekend’s club record amateur knock of 167.
With the gap between Crompton and second placed Royton now eight points, a win tomorrow is essential.
Finally, OLDHAM are back at The Pollards tomorrow when they will bid to bounce back from their thumping at Crompton with a much-needed victory against Radcliffe.
