CRICKET: THREE defeats on the spin have seen Heyside slip from first to third place in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League.
Friarmere was the most recent team to inflict misery on the Little Hey Street outfit - one man in particular.
Imran Khan struck 89 in his team’s total of 201 for seven at Slack Lane, and then weighed in with seven for 70 in restricting Heyside to 197 for nine.
Khan's former club, Glodwick, moved up to second in the table thanks to a six-wicket win at Shaw, for whom Joe Whitehead scored 47 from 100 balls and Phil Taylor a rapid 31 off 24 deliveries in an opening stand of 46.
Glodwick were 25 for two at one stage in reply, but soon recovered to win, with Anees Ur Rehman unbeaten on 60.
Leaders Bamford Fieldhouse were eight for two at home to Austerlands, but a magnificent stand of 312 between wicketkeeper Nick Brierley (148 not out) and Grant Hodnett (145) hoisted them to 325 for four.
The visitors were bowled out for 76 as the reigning champions stretched their advantage to 22 points.
Half centuries from Michael Blomeley (59) and Nick Lawrence (56) were in vain as Micklehurst slumped to a six-wicket reverse against Saddleworth at Castle Lane.
After they successfully defended 167 last weekend, Moorside kept Greenfield at bay in a low-scoring game at Turf Pit Lane.
Danny Anchor was not out on 49 in the home side’s 150, but Alex Peters’ men only managed 92, with Glen McFadyean grabbing four for 32.
Stayley made it two victories on the bounce as Mudassar Butt hit 50 and took four for 50 in a 15-run defeat of Droylsden at Oakfield.
