Steve claims double after Vernon hits Diggle jackpot

ANGLING: JOHN Vernon was first in the Diggle AC match on Tanners Dam thanks to 23lb 13oz of mostly carp on the pole.
Steve Hall had an almost identical catch for 23lb 4oz and second place, while Ian Cox was third with 20lb 2oz.
Hall went one better in the latest match on the venue. Drawn on a flyer end peg, he opted for the pole, worm and caster combination for 49lb 8oz of carp. Organiser Dave Machin (Fibrecare) was second with 32lb 8oz of carp.
Hall also came up trumps in the Todmorden AS members-only match on Croft.
He took the spoils with his pole and pellet approach tempting 37lb 4oz of carp. Chris Lett, in second place, had 36lb 6oz of carp and silvers on pole and worm.
Peter Eastwood won the Tuesday evening Todmorden AS match on Croft. Waggler and pellets worked the oracle as the combination attracted 29lb 15oz of mostly carp.
Ben Summerscales was next with 19lb 1oz of carp on pole and pellet.
TODMORDEN AS are staging the second of two taster sessions on the Smithy Bridge length of the Rochdale Canal tomorrow. Tackle, bait and licences are provided free of charge.

MONARCH AC’s match on the club water threw up some cracking weights.
The winner, Neil Hardy, landed 30lb 8oz of carp and crucians using pole and sweetcorn.
Runner-up Dean Pickering was second with 28lb 15oz of carp, skimmers and chub on pellet.
The Monarch AC members-only match on the club water also produced some great weights.
Dave Ireland was among the venue’s silvers population, netting 32lb 12oz of skimmers and roach with chopped worm and caster for top spot. Jim Evans was second with 30lb of skimmers, ide and roach on pole and maggot.
STEVEN Eaton Dykes is a podium regular at Cranberry AC matches.
The latest event, on Partridge Fisheries’ Ribbon Lake, saw him fish mostly down the track.
Using pellet and meat on the pole, Eaton Dykes had a mixed bag of silvers, which included some carp and ide, in a 48lb 7oz bag for first place.
Jack Cubby was second-best with 40lb 13oz of carp, Ide and f1s which fell to pole and meat.
THE Medlock Bridge AC match on the Park Lake went to Martin Taylor, of Matrix Halifax.
He had 16lb 12oz of decent bream, chub and roach on caster from favoured peg 24.
Next-best Robert Kelsall used maggot up and down in the water for 13lb 6oz of roach, chub and skimmers
BRIAN Meadows won the J & B Open match on the Broadgate length of the Rochdale Canal.
Weights were good, with the Leigh Tackle and Bait rod starting on bread punch before switching to squatt half-way through for 4lb 1oz of small roach.
Runner-up Tony Crolla followed the small roach for 3lb 14oz 10drams.
SADDLEWORTH and District Angling Society members should note that this Sunday’s match has been moved to Eagle Mill Dam on August 4. Draw is at 8.30am, with fishing from 9.30am to 2.30pm. Members need to book.

Rochdale Canal: A fish every put-in on squatt and bread. Tench to worm.
Bardsley Canal: Day tickets on the bank.
Alexandra Park Lake: Day tickets on the bank. Good nets of bream, chub and roach falling to maggot.
Hollingworth Lake: Solid with skimmers, bream and roach. Swimfeeder, worm and red maggot for some decent-sized fish.
Tanners Dam: Diggle AC members-only. Mostly carp feeding in this week’s match but plenty of silvers to be had on this prolific water.
