IT proved a game too far for Delph yesterday as they were well beaten in the final of the Drakes Huddersfield League All Rounder Twenty20 competition at Hoylandswaine.

After a super campaign to reach the final, Delph fell 50 runs short as they won the toss and elected to bat.

Delph rarely scaled the heights of their heroics in the quarter and semi-final matches, as they could only manage 149 for nine.

Irfan Zahoor was top scorer with only 29, bowled with Delph on 88 for three..

Don Bandula, Richard Wilkinson, John Sadler and Michael Cranmer each bagged two wickets for Swaine.

Zahoor snared three wickets in the hosts’ reply, but it wasn’t enough as they stormed to victory after 15 overs having lost only five wickets, with Ben Potter hitting 55 and Cranmer remaining unbeaten on 34.

DELPH squeezed home in their latest Premiership fixture on Saturday.

Replying to Scholes’ opening knock of 207 for eight – Faisal Butt took three for 61 – Delph reached 209 for eight with Norvall hitting 68 and skipper Jones 46 not out.

Norvall and Jones had come together with Delph teetering on 56 for six, but a seventh-wicket stand of 117 paved the way for a welcome victory.
