Saddleworth Rangers 23, Hunslet Warriors 16
SHANE Tupaea bagged his first victory as coach of Saddleworth on Saturday as Rangers got the better of Hunslet Warriors in the National Conference League Division One at Shaw Hall Bank Road.
Lloyd Templeton put the fifth-placed visitors ahead with two minutes on the clock and Gary McCelland converted to open up a 6-0 lead.
It took another 15 minutes for Rangers to get on the scoreboard when Josh Bradbury crossed and Coates kicked the goal to level the scores.
Coates added another goal just after the half-hour mark to put his side 8-6 ahead at the break.
Bradbury struck again after 57 minutes, with Coates adding the conversion, to extend Rangers’ lead to 14-6, before a try from Templeton later pulled it back to 14-10.
But James Whalley added his name to the scoresheet for Rangers with a try after 67 minutes, converted by Coates, to give the hosts a 20-10 advantage.
The visitors fought back and registered a Carlton Bravo try, with McCelland kicking the goal to narrow the score to 20-16 going into the final 10 minutes. But Rangers saw out the game as a Coates penalty and Bradbury drop-goal sealed their fourth victory of the season.
