KEVIN Duffy ended a 10-year wait for a major at Stamford Golf Club when he won the Rawson Cup.

His return of 71-6-65 gave him victory over Dwayne Lloyd (77-10-67), with Rick Taylor (74-7-67) third.

Duffy had been runner-up on several occasions, losing out on a card play-off in more than one major.

CROMPTON and Royton’s Mark Barnes was a highly-creditable fourth to the prolific Mark Young in the inaugural Baskerville Hound at Northenden.

Barnes had rounds of 73 and 75, six shots behind the winner, to reach the frame. Brookdale’s Joe Brice returned scores of 76 and 74 for 150, having also played well to be eighth in the Wilpshire Trophy with 74 and 69 for 143.

Brice is up to fourth in the Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit with 520 points, but Young – who also won the Wilpshire event – looks to have an unassailable lead on 1,165.

ASHTON Golf Club ace Matt Nixon finished joint second at the M2M Russian Open in Moscow.

Playing at the plush Tseleevo Golf and Polo Club, rounds of 69, 70, 68 and 69 helped Nixon to a final score of 12 under par. Ireland’s Michael Hoey won with a score of 16 under.

OLDHAM’S Jane Antrobus and Bev Scholes returned a score of 76-11.5-64.5 to win the Manchester and District Past Captains’ competition held at Werneth.

Oldham’s Ann Smith and Sheila Antrobus were fourth with a nett 73.5, while the best gross prize went to the same club’s Mary Buckley and Wendy Cash with 91.

Oldham’s vice-captain’s prize was won by Ann Smith, who scored 38 points to edge out Liz Johnson with 36.

CROMPTON and Royton’s women’s open was won by Julie Langfield and Veronica Whitehills of Crows Nest Park Golf Club in Yorkshire. Julie, a 26 handicapper, and Veronica, who plays off 17, teamed up to

register a fantastic score of 47 Stableford points.
