IT was start of the new Millennium when Uppermill and Moorside previously locked horns in the Tanner Cup final.
The year was 2000 and Leefields was the venue as the hosts attempted to clinch part one of a league and cup double.
Dave Roberts and Andy McVeigh, who are set to play for Uppermill on Sunday, were unable to make too much impression with the bat – they scored 13 apiece – in the home side’s total of 191 for six.
Pakistani professional Aamir Bashir, who sadly died in 2010 after losing his battle with cancer, top-scored with 75.
Richard Baines, who is set to open the batting for Moorside this weekend, was run out for 22 in reply before rain stopped play with the score on 49 for one.
After two more evenings of wet weather, the final eventually resumed on the Wednesday and paid man Quaiser Rashid, thanks to an unbeaten 94, saw Moorside home with five wickets and two balls to spare.
Uppermill still had the league title in their sights, but even that prize eluded them as Greenfield were crowned champions.
