ENCOURAGING SIGNS: Oldham Boro team manager Tony Mills.
NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL:
OLDHAM Boro chairman Mark Kilgannon is confident of shaking off a costly three-point deduction with further improvements in the coming North-West Counties League season.
Thanks to a hotly-disputed punishment for fielding an ineligible player last season, Boro finished eighth in the first division and missed a potentially-lucrative place in the FA Cup.
But generally, last season was one of promise under manager Tony Mills. Kilgannon is hoping to build on that: “It was really disappointing for us to miss out on the FA Cup, but we’re all confident of improving on last season’s eighth place
“Pre-season has gone well, we’ve brought in a few good new lads and so things look promising.”
Boro will be based at Atherton Collieries’ Alder Street stadium again this season, but Kilgannon has revealedplans to move back to Oldham, with a decision expected in the next 12 months.
The Boro chief added: “We have highlighted a number of sites and have had meetings with the council. A return is still a long way down the line, but we need to get back to Oldham. Every game is an away game for us and that’s no good.”
Boro get their season underway on Saturday with a trip to new club 1874 Northwich.
