Diggle doddle for ace Dave

ANGLING: THE big carp fed in Tuesday’s Diggle AC match fished on Tanner’s, where Dave Machin (Fibrecare) netted fish to 17lb as his pole, meat and paste approach gave him a 48lb 4oz winning net of carp and silvers.

He eased past second-placed Carl Hendry, who netted 37lb 14oz of carp falling to worm and caster.

The same method worked for in-form Steve Hall as he tipped 31lb 12oz of carp and silvers on to the scales.

Put Hall on a good peg and the game is over for the rest - as in Saturday’s Medlock Bridge AC match on the Park Lake. At 33lb 5oz, he almost doubled the total of the next man.

Martin Taylor (Matrix Halifax) was second from peg seven on the other side of the footbridge, catching plenty of perch on worm, caster and maggot and weighing in 18lb 8oz.



In Monday’s Medlock Bridge AC match, Hall again took first place in one of the tightest events I can ever remember, with only 3oz separating the top three.

Drawn on peg 23, Hall fished chopped worm and caster, catching plenty of small perch, tench, skimmers and chub totalling 18lb 6oz.

Bob Harrison was on peg eight where maggot fished close in caught him plenty of small perch before switching to a longer line and catching some better fish to weigh in 18lb 5oz for second.



OLDHAM-based anglers were again in the money on Old Hough Farm Upper and Lower Benbo Lakes as the Saturday Open saw Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) take second on the upper lake with a fantastic 55lb 13oz of tench, f1s, barbell and silvers that fell to corn fished over micros at 14 metres.



CHRIS Oliver took first place in the Todmorden AS members-only match on an impressive Townhouse with his 47lb 10oz of carp falling to pole and pellet.

Pete Mottram was second, with pole and worm netting him 40lb 4oz of carp and silvers.



SADDLEWORTH and District Angling Society members should note fishing isn’t allowed on Eagle Mill Dam this Sunday, due to a members-only match.

MIKE Diskin was the winner of the latest Socials AC match fished on Tyle Lodge, with his carp and silver fish catch weighing in at a massive 40lb 13oz.

Diskin had a practice session on the water in midweek and had the shock of his life when he caught a huge eel that weighed over 5lb!



Larry Hazeldine was second on the day with 22lb 8oz of chub and bream, followed by Dean Pickering’s third-best 21lb 10oz of carp, chub and bream.

Bardsley Canal – Day tickets on the bank.

Alexandra Park Lake – Day tickets on the bank. Chopped worm and caster picking up all of the money.

Hollingworth Lake – Swimfeeder, worm and red maggot for skimmers and bream. Best area near the cafe.

Tanner’s Dam – Diggle AC members only. Solid with plenty of big carp feeding. One pleasure angler caught 35 carp this week in a single session.
