CRICKET: LLOYD Kingston is hoping to end his reign as Moorside captain on a high on Sunday with victory in the Versasteel Saddleworth and District League Tanner Cup final against Uppermill.

In his fifth season as skipper at Turf Pit Lane, Kingston is to step down at the end of the 2013 campaign due to increasing commitments away from cricket.

He plans still to turn out for Moorside at weekends, but for now he hopes this Sunday a day to cherish - starting at 1pm.

“It would be great to go out on a high,” said Kingston, the South African former Oldham overseas amateur star.

“It’s my first cup final with the club so it’s going to be very special. I’ve enjoyed every minute at Moorside, but I’m finding it more and more difficult to get to meetings.

“We’ve got some brilliant young players coming through now, too. All round, the club is moving

forward spectacularly. It’s just all the responsibilities I’m struggling with, so I’ll step aside and we’ll see whether my vice-captain, Danny Anchor, steps up for next season.”

Kingston is hoping his team will turn on the style on Sunday in front of an anticipated large home crowd. But he acknowledges the Uppermill threat.

“There will be some pressure on us to win at home,” added Kingston. “There is a lot of respect between us and Uppermill and I know how close and how very good they are.”
