HEYSIDE followed up their record-breaking defeat of Micklehurst by crushing Hollinwood by nine wickets in the Versasteel Saddleworth and District Cricket League.

It was a straightforward afternoon’s work for the Little Hey Street club after they had reduced the hosts to 63 all out. Scott Bloor was the pick of the bowlers with five for 20.

Heyside are eight points adrift of second-placed Glodwick, who beat Stayley by 39 runs at Millbrook.

Anees Ur Rehman top-scored with 83 and Mark Whitehead made 51 as Bamford Fieldhouse’s nearest challengers piled up 237 for seven.

Professional Peter Skuse (79) and Brad Hadfield (43 not out) added 120 for the fourth wicket as Saddleworth, in fourth place, overcame Droylsden at Well-i-Hole.

Overseas amateur Josh Butler claimed four for 39 in the visitors’ total of 168 in which Dave Lees struck 47.

Paid man Chris Gill’s knock of 69 was in vain as Greenfield succumbed by eight wickets at leaders Bamford. Pro Grant Hodnett was unbeaten on 72 in the hosts’ reply of 119 for two.

Andrew Punchard’s hat-trick in figures of five for 33 was also to no avail for Shaw, who lost by 61 runs at home to Friarmere, for whom Atiq Ur Rehman struck a fine 91 out of 213.

Austerlands pro Imran Aslam made 89 and claimed four for 46 against his former employers Uppermill at Leefields.

Alas, the Pakistani’s efforts proved fruitless as well as the home side, thanks to 90 from opposite number Darren Shadford and Paul Thompson’s 75, reached their target of 239 with three wickets and an over to spare.

Uppermill’s Tanner Cup final rivals Moorside warmed up for the big day with a 95-run defeat of Micklehurst at Castle Lane.
