It’s three and easy for Joe

BROOKDALE’S rising star Joe Brice continued his ascent up the Cleveland Srixon Northern Order of Merit table with his third victory of the season in the Childwall Trophy.

Brice’s win lifted him to third place in the rankings on a day when several of the other top players were competing for Lancashire, who beat Durham 11-7 in the Northern Counties League at Ravensworth.

The plus-three player compiled rounds of 71 and 73, level par all told, to win by two strokes from the host club's Paul McFerran.

He now has his sights on this week’s North of England Youth Championship, a World Amateur Golf ranking event, in Middlesbrough.

TWELVE handicapper Steve Lynch produced a level-par 68 gross score to return a super-low 56 nett total and win a medal round at Werneth.

But spare a thought for runner-up Howard Travis, who shot a nett nine-under 59 that still wasn’t enough for victory!

RON and Sheila Mellor from Meltham teamed up to win Saddleworth’s Millgate Trophy.

They had a return of 68.5 and won a card play-off against Barry and Pam Tomlinson.

Matt Champman and Sue Booth (71) were third, while Barry and Eileen Simpson won a card play-off for fourth against Trevor Higham and M Leigh after both pairs had 72s.

Best gross for the Eric Milne Trophy was returned by Lee Rowbotham and Fiona Dooley with 78, while Andy Dunster (8ft 3in away) was nearest the pin on the second hole and Pam Taylor (14ft 4in) claimed the prize on the 15th.
