GOLF: STAMFORD and North Manchester hit double top as the Oldham and District Golf League regular season was completed.
North ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams booked home advantage in the play-offs by winning the West Divisions and Stamford did likewise in the East.
North secured top spot in the ‘A’ section after a 5-3 win at Crompton and Royton, while Werneth missed out on runners-up spot to Blackley when losing 5-3 at Oldham.
Stamford’s ‘B’ team had run away with their division, but the ‘A’ team pulled off a shock by winning 8-0 on the last day of the season, while rivals Dukinfield and Ashton both lost 6-2. Ashton were the team to miss out.
And the fine run at a play-off spot by Brookdale ‘B’, following a poor start, fell at the final hurdle when they lost 6-2 at Blackley.
