CRICKET: HEYWOOD hold the advantage in the John Willie Lees Wood Cup final scheduled to finish at Crimble tonight (6.30pm).
There was no play on Monday following Sunday’s rain-hit action, but the players from Heywood and Walsden were able to get on the pitch last night for a topsy-turvy session. Chasing Walsden’s total of 163 for nine, Heywood were firmly on the ropes after being reduced to 72 for five.
But the unruffled Bobby Cross and swashbuckling teenager Andy Dawson shared an unbroken sixth-wicket stand of 53 as Heywood turned the tables in their favour before the umpires called a halt at 8.25pm.
