Classic show from Ellis

BOWLS:
GARY Ellis recently celebrated his 40th birthday — and the landmark clearly holds no worries for the Nimble Nook and Tonge ace.
The star player added to his impressive list of bowling titles on Sunday by winning the Bellingham Classic in Wigan, beating local player Danny Allsop 31-14 in the final to clinch the £800 top prize.
Gary had hit back from 29-24 down to defeat Preston’s Wayne Ditchfield 31-29 in the semis.
Ellis had raced to Bellingham from the Carlsberg Richmond Open in Liverpool — where he was beaten 21-14 in the final by Heswall’s Dave McDermott to collect the £500 runner-up prize.
SADDLEWORTH League’s Tweed Cup heats take place on Saturday week, August 24, with the finals on the following day at Nimble Nook - or maybe not.
Entries have been slow, and unless 32 are received the competition will be scrapped.
Potential entrants are asked to ring Bob Horrocks on 07791 426809 as soon as possible.
