JASON Fish and Gary Pemberton completed a full house of trophies after Saddleworth’s victory in the Moore Cup final.
After winning the Saddleworth and District Cricket League’s Division One and Two titles and Tanner Cup, only the second XI knock-out competition was absent from the duo’s personal honours list.
That was put right last Sunday when Saddleworth beat Friarmere by five wickets in front of their own fans.
Pemberton, a stalwart of the league since 1985, has won the Division One championship with Austerlands (1989) and Saddleworth (2002 and 2004).
He has celebrated the Division Two crown 20 years apart with Moorside (1988) and then Saddleworth (2008), and the Tanner Cup, firstly with Delph in 1998 and Saddleworth in consecutive years in 2002 and 2003. In the latter, he was named man-of-the-match.
Fish’s silverware success has been with Saddleworth alone, and mirrored the years Pemberton has spent at Well-i-Hole.
All that had eluded the 42-year-olds, until now, was the Moore Cup.
Pemberton got the chance to score the winning run in the final — but missed it.
“The scores were level so I got it into my head to win it in style," he explained. “I went for the big finish - but I was bowled.”
Fish had rich praise for Steve Taylor, who took five wickets and scored 70, as well as their
opponents, who displayed late order tenacity to post 165.
And he added: “I always said I would retire after winning all four trophies, but I don’t think I’m quite ready for that yet.”
