WERNETH, the dominant force in the Lake Garage CLL Championship this season, can win promotion to the league’s Premier Division for 2014 on Saturday.

Victory over third-placed Crompton at the Coppice would ensure the leaders finish in the top two - even if they lost every other fixture.

So skipper Matt Taylor won’t have much motivating to do before his players walk out on the pitch.

It has been a great summer for Werneth. Taylor’s men suffered their only loss of the season on May 5 — and that, by second-placed Royton, has since been avenged.

Confidence and spirits are high in the camp and Taylor gives much of the credit to paid man Mohammed Zaman Khan.

“It helps so much when you have a pro like him, who has lots of experience in this league,” said the skipper.

“He has scored almost as many runs as Ben Dunk (the prolific Royton professional) and has got more wickets than him, so he has made a big contribution.

“But we have learned how to win this summer and that will stand us in good stead next season.

“Of course, we have to finish the job and achieve our first objective of promotion and, hopefully, we can do that this weekend. Then we will be aiming to clinch the title - we can’t have Royton winning it!”
