up and over: James Blair, of Mossley, beats his Kendal Town opponent to the ball in the Evo-Stik Division One North opener at Seel Park.
Non-league football:
EARLY promise soon faded for Mossley as they lost on the opening day of the new Evo-Stik Division One North campaign.
With new joint-bosses Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison in charge, the Lilywhites went from leading at half-time to a 3-1 defeat against Kendal Town.
A disappointed Band said: “Individual mistakes cost us dearly in the second half. That was frustrating. We had a few words with the players about certain things.
“I told them that we don’t want to be feeling like this all week, so we need to bounce back positively tomorrow.”
Prospects looked rosy early on, with Andy Keogh finally breaking the deadlock for Mossley in the 36th minute.
But the Cumbrian outfit turned the game on its head in the second period.
Mossley travel to Wakefield tomorrow night (7.45pm), and will be boosted by the return of Sam Madeley, who was unavailable at the weekend.
THERE were mixed fortunes for CHADDERTON and OLDHAM BORO in the North-West Counties League First Division.
It was a terrific day at Broadway as new Chadderton joint-bosses Steve Patterson and Mark Cook guided their charges to their first win of the season. Chadderton won 1-0 against Daisy Hill thanks to Danny Hudson’s first-half strike.
Oldham Boro went down 1-0 when hosting Irlam at Atherton. The only goal of the game came 15 minutes from time from Jordan Icely.
