SPRINGHEAD Cricket Club is 150 years old and on the up again after a colourful history.

Founder members of the South-East Lancashire and Saddleworth and District Leagues and now playing in the North Manchester League, Springhead will hold two fund-raising events to mark their notable anniversary.

The team, which plays in the Third Division of the NMCL under the captaincy of Craig Simpson, will take on a Saddleworth League Select XI on Sunday, August 25 (2pm).

It will be held at Springhead’s ground off Cooper Street, behind Springhead Junior School.

The club is also holding a celebratory social evening for past and present players at St Herbert’s Function Room, Chadderton, on October 26.

Admission is by ticket only, costing £25 for one or £45 for two. Anybody wishing to attend should contact Keith Lees on 0161 785 9460 or 07974 055410. Alternatively, email keithlees@fsmail.net
