CRICKET: CROMPTON skipper Carl Taylor is to relinquish the captaincy at the end of this season.
The demands of the job and commitment to his young family are the reasons for the 32 year old’s decision to hand over the reins. He will continue to play.
Simon Wright, the former Crompton stalwart who has been playing for Bamford Fieldhouse this season, is a possible replacement as skipper at Glebe Street after his current club were thrown out of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League from the start of next season.
Speculation has been growing about Wright’s return to Crompton since the Saddleworth League’s action against Bamford.
Taylor is about to complete his fourth season as captain at Crompton and feels he needs to spend more time with his family.
“I have enjoyed the captaincy and I think the players have been receptive towards me, but I feel it’s time to give someone else a chance.”
