ANGLING: PEGS eight and 23 are the two most consistent pegs on the Park Lake, with most match results including them at some point.

Saturday’s Medlock Bridge AC open match at the venue proved the point as, despite strong winds, Darren Webb fished 13-metre pole, worm and caster for a level 23lb of skimmers, chub and a solitary barbell.

Joe Rowan was again in the frame with his second-placed net of skimmers caught on 11-metre pole and worm coming off peg seven and weighing 20lb 14oz.

Mr Consistent, Steve Hall, continued his incredible run with a third-best 16lb catch, which included two 2lb tench and some bream and perch that all fell to chopped worm and caster.

Carl Hendry was fourth with 15lb 11oz of skimmers, while Fred Prudham finished in sixth place with a waggler and maggot-taken 14lb 3oz of skimmers, f1s, roach and perch.

Conrad Taylor has drawn some good pegs of late, with his last three matches in the Medlock Bridge Saturday and Monday evening series, fished on the Park Lake, seeing him stationed on 23 twice and eight once.

In Monday’s match Conrad, was on eight from which he caught plenty of bream to 2lb fishing maggot over groundbait at 13 metres.

And, despite losing a lot of fish, he tipped 33lb 13oz on to the scales for an easy win.

Paul Lord took second place with pellet and maggot fished at 11 metres which him catch skimmers, chub, perch, roach and a tench at the death which took his final tally to 17lb 15oz. Steve

TUESDAY’S Todmorden AS members-only match fished on Croft was a decent contest with carp making up most of the catches.

Winner with 20lb 7oz was Paul Wilkinson, with pole and meat tempting some decent carp.

Second was regular money

winner Pete Mottram with his chopped worm and caster approach netting him 18lb 9oz of carp and silvers.

Chris Lett took third with 16lb 9oz of pole and meat-tempted carp, followed by Pete Eastwood’s 13lb 12oz of carp caught with identical tactics.

SATURDAY’S open match on Old Hough Farm’s Upper Benbo Lake was again a money maker for Dave Holland (Tri-Cast Highfield).

His paste, fished down the middle, gave him a cracking net of carp weighing 52lb 2oz.

Andy Pickles was second with 50lb 6oz of barbel and carp which fell to meat fished on the inside.

THE B and J open match on the Leigh Canal was ruined by masses of heavy weed that made it

difficult to find a clear spot to fish.

Those who managed it made the frame, with Mick Hargreaves taking first place with bread punch and then squatt-caught roach, rudd and perch making up his 5lb 12oz net.

Ken Power (Tri-Cast Highfield) had an almost unfishable peg which saw him resort to fishing a three-gram float with chopped worm. That landed him three small tench and plenty of small perch for a second-best 5lb.

CRANBERRY AC found Old Hough Farm in great form as the Upper Benbo Lake gave Mark Eaton Dykes a super win with his 45lb 2oz net of carp and silvers falling to pellet, corn and meat fished short and long.

Steve Sharples finished an agonisingly-close second with 44lb 15oz catch which fell to meat fished long.

MONARCH AC’s match fished on the club water gave Dave Ireland another win with his 33lb 10oz of roach and skimmers falling to chopped worm and caster.

Chris Quinlan was second with 22lb 4oz of roach and skimmers which succumbed to pole and corn.

Sunday’s match also produced some good weights with Mick Diskin netting himself the best with maggot fished on the pole tempting 30lb 1oz of roach and skimmers.

Ivan Ditchfield was just a fish or two behind as his pellet approach tempted 28lb 12oz of roach, skimmers and carp.
