Khan’s century spurs Hollinwood

CRICKET: A KASHIF Khan-inspired Hollinwood recorded their first win in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League for almost two months.
Promoted to number three, the former Moorside batsman made an unbeaten 101 in the 105-run win at home to Micklehurst.
Khan has been in splendid touch for Hollinwood this season with eight half-centuries, but this time he reached three figures in an innings lasting 119 balls. He struck 11 fours and three sixes.
Putting his foot to the floor, he was the driving force behind Hollinwood scoring 145 runs in the last 15 overs which lifted the total to 246 for four. Shakeel Saddique contributed 56.
Jack Darnborough made a fine 65 for Micklehurst.
Greenfield’s Chris Gill was another centurion, making 109, which equalled his season’s best, in the 127-run defeat of Austerlands at Thorpe Lane.
Team-mate Adam Hayes claimed five for 36 as the hosts were dismissed for 171, in reply to 298 for eight.
The win has moved Greenfield back into the top five after Moorside suffered their second defeat in the space of six days at Uppermill.
While the previous loss hurt more — it was in the Tanner Cup final replay — this was still hard to stomach after they set the home side 232 for victory. Francois Mostert (62) and Francis Sutherland (59) were among the runs for the Turf Pit Lane outfit.
Uppermill crossed the line with five wickets and six overs to spare, thanks largely to a second-wicket stand of 156 between Pete Roberts (93) and Paul Thompson (77).
Phil Taylor (58) and Anthony Edden (53 not out) made half-centuries as Shaw enjoyed a comfortable nine-wicket success at Stayley.
And despite Saif Ur Rehman’s six for 76, Droylsden slipped to a one-wicket defeat at home to Friarmere, who reached their target of 148 with 15 overs to spare.
