NOT THIS TIME . . . Werneth batsman John Slater survives an appeal from Royton bowler Matthew Hodson. But the pace ace was to get his man, caught behind by Craig Joy.
CRICKET: ROYTON has suddenly emerged as favourite for the big prize.
A weekend that saw the previous leaders lose twice – including at the hands of Royton at the Coppice – has turned the title race upside down.
Nine points behind Werneth going into last weekend’s double header, Royton are now level.
And crucially they have registered one more league victory than Werneth - which means if both teams win their remaining three fixtures and gain the same number of points, the title and winner’s trophy goes to Royton.
The equation for Royton is simple. Take maximum points from their three remaining fixtures and the title will be theirs.
The Paddock outfit clearly has the momentum and has already booked former pro Luke Procter for Sunday’s home match against Ashton.
The side also hopes to grab him for the remaining two matches of the season.
Werneth must somehow pick themselves up for their last three games.
