Luck shines on light-fingered Webb

ANGLING: SATURDAY’S Medlock Bridge AC open match on the Park Lake was a tight affair, with less than two pounds separating the top four.
Winner for the second week on the trot was organiser Darren Webb, with his peg 24a draw proving profitable.
Despite losing two big tench and a bream he still managed to catch some good skimmers and the odd bream to 3lb that all fell to pellet fished over pellets and swimstim groundbait fished at 11 metres. He weighed in 15lb 13oz.
Webb acknowledged it was one of those days that lady luck was on his side.
As he pulled his keepnet out to be weighed, a small five-ounce skimmer dropped into the lake and as it was floundering in the shallow water, he managed to pick it up, only to drop it in again.
A final grab at the fish saw Webb put it back in the weighing bag and that took his final tally to 15lb 13oz.
That fish was important as next best was Bob Harrison and he plundered in-form peg 23 to the tune of 15lb 11oz of skimmers on pellet and perch on maggot fished at nine metres.
Another form peg gave Danny Heywood third, with his peg 24 accounting for three small tench and plenty of smaller fish that fell to pellet fished at 12 metres, netting him 14lb 4oz.
Carl Hendry filled fourth place with his chopped worm and caster at 13 metres approach working really well for 14lb 2oz of skimmers, chub and roach.
He beat John Lees (Gilders) into fifth. Lees’ 10lb 8oz of chub and skimmers fell to tip and pole tactics fished in conjunction with maggots.
