UPPERMILL romped to a 5-2 win at Leigh Athletic in the club’s first-ever fixture in the FBT Manchester League.
Simon Tait’s side led 1-0 at the break courtesy of a Sam Whittingslow goal, and later doubled their lead with an Andrew Pheby penalty.
Despite having Matthew Moores sent off after 63 minutes for a second yellow card offence, Uppermill scored again through Jimmy Ollerenshaw, Sam Taylor and Lewis Nicholls to start the First Division season in style.
There was no such luck for Hollinwood, who crashed to a 4-1 home defeat at the hands of Heywood St James.
However, they redeemed themselves somewhat on Tuesday night when they secured a 1-1 derby draw at Uppermill’s Churchill playing fields base.
AVRO have enjoyed back-to-back victories this week, beginning on Saturday when they got the better of visitors Old Alts 2-1. AVRO then prevailed 2-1 at AFC Monton on Tuesday night.
Springhead drew 2-2 in their top-flight home clash against Hindsford, while Royton Town lost out by the odd goal in seven when hosting Wythenshawe Amateurs.
