Ups and downs for Delph
Date published: 02 September 2013
THERE were hugely contrasting fortunes for Delph during what was the penultimate weekend of the Drakes Huddersfield League Premiership season.
Following a terrific victory on Saturday, Grant Jones’s men slid to a comprehensive reverse against Elland yesterday.
Taking first knock, Delph reached a slightly below-par total of 192 as Irfan Zahoor and Kevin Hook both scored 40, and Jamshad Ahmad struck a fine unbeaten 52.
However, in reply Elland cruised to an eight-wicket win as they stormed to 195 for two in good time.
On Saturday, Delph were in mean mood as they crushed struggling Barkisland by 158 runs at their Huddersfield Road base.
Batting first, the hosts reached a huge total of 268 all out as Zahoor top-scored with 79, while Luke Hargreaves added 60 not out, Aaron Lilley 47 and Matt Norvall 43.
Barkisland’s best bowler by far was Chris Greenwood who took eight wickets at a cost of 85 runs.
In reply, the visitors were skittled for 110 as Lancashire prospect Lilley took five for 32 and Hook three for six.
