Tempers fray after low-scoring match

Date published: 02 September 2013

THERE was never a dull moment in the Droylsden versus Moorside Saddleworth and District Cricket League clash at Oakfield, which saw both sides dismissed for less than 100 and left a player facing a possible ban for allegedly striking an opponent.

Victory seemed a certainty for Lloyd Kingston’s men after they sent the hosts spiralling to 83 all out, South African overseas amateur Francois Mostert claiming five for 27.

However, Moorside managed only 79 as Mohammed Shakir produced a terrific spell of bowling to bag seven for 39.

The drama did not end there, though. Umpires had to intervene after a Droylsden fielder was apparently hit by a Moorside player as the teams made their way back to the dressing rooms. A report of the incident will be sent to the league.

Meanwhile, with the season entering its final stages, only five points separate the top three, although leaders Bamford Fieldhouse have a game in hand.
