Lee has the last laugh

THERE was an intriguing tussle in Oldham’s opening Lancashire GMC Super Eights Elite League game of the season.
Stuart Holden, who captained the town team to the title last season, lined up for opponents Lune Valley after recently moving to the Morecambe area.
On the Oldham side was son, Lee, and in a twist of fate they were drawn against each other.
And it was the old head of Stuart who emerged victorious in a 4-1 scoreline. Holden senior averaged 92.41 for every darts thrown, while Holden junior recorded 88.96.
But Lee had the last laugh, though, as Stuart was unable to prevent his new colleagues from slipping to defeat, with reigning champions Oldham recovering from a 2-0 deficit to win 7-3.
On the mark for Oldham were Dave Adshead (4-0, 84.16), Paul Cartwright (4-0, 101.97), Mark McGeeney (4-3, 93.97), Ian Walters (4-3, 81.22), Carl Sneyd (4-2, 76.07), Andy Pearson (4-3, 78.82) and Dave Rawstron (4-1, 85.13).
McGeeney recorded a superb outshot of 150 in beating fellow England international Mick Oversby.
Walters was 3-0 down in his match and Sneyd 2-0 adrift, before both went on to win their respective matches.
Oldham’s are next in action against Bury on Sunday, September 29, at a venue to be arranged.
PAUL Cartwright, Lee Holden, Stuart Holden, Dave Adshead and Mark McGeeney are in the Lancashire team to play Cheshire at St Thomas’s Working Men’s Club, Wigan, this weekend.
