A strong field of men and women gathered at Darley Moor in Derbyshire for the annual National Clarion Road Race Championship.
With several riders attacking from the off, it was left to Saddleworth’s Tim Mitchell to try to bridge the gap.
Chris Moreman then assumed the pace-setting duties and, as the field split in two, it was left to Simon Pateman to co-ordinate the chasing group.
Noel Disbury acquitted himself well in his first road race, but Vanessa Whitfield was the best-placed Saddleworth rider, and she went on to sprint for overall victory in women’s race.
