Top-flight seekers foil gritty Rangers

RUGBY:
SADDLEWORTH Rangers seem determined to give it their best shot in the ongoing battle to beat the drop in National Conference League Division One.
A 15th league defeat of the season, 20-8 at Hunslet Warriors, keeps Shane Tupaea’s charges second-bottom in the table.
Rangers were looking to do the double over the Warriors, and were in with a great chance after levelling things at 8-8 in the early stages of the second half.
But the hosts pulled clear to maintain their bid for promotion to the top flight.
Rangers face another difficult trip on Saturday — they visit fifth-placed Oulton Raiders — while local rivals Waterhead return from a week off with a visit to Bradford Dudley Hill.
Waterhead are one place above Rangers but have played a game more.
Bottom side Stanley Rangers moved within a point of Rangers after a 40-16 victory at home to Millom.
