CRICKET: BAMFORD Fieldhouse Cricket Club is set for its last curtain call.
Despite the efforts of chairman Andy Barton, the club has failed to find a competition to play in next season; Sunday’s LCB Cup final at Old Trafford could be their last-ever game.
Thrown out of the Saddleworth and District Cricket League for “continued flouting of the rules” — their final league fixture is against Micklehurst on Saturday — Bamford have contacted several competitions for next season, but have had no luck.
Barton said: “It’s a tragedy that it has come to this, but we are where we are. When a club leaves the league they have to give notice. We haven’t had that and have nowhere to go. We could end up winning the LCB Cup - but then not be able to defend it.”
Holders Bamford play Northern CC, from the Liverpool Competition, on Sunday — a repeat of last year’s final, won by the Rochdale side.
AFTER an evening of number crunching, Heyside has finished runner-up to Bamford Fieldhouse, not Glodwick. Officials discovered Heyside have 414 points and Glodwick one point fewer.
