NON-LEAGUE FOOTBALL: STUTTERING Mossley slumped to second-from-bottom in the Evo-Stik Division One North table after a crushing 4-0 defeat by new club 1883 Darlington on Saturday.

The headaches increase for new joint-bosses Peter Band and Lloyd Morrison as the Lilywhites’ defence crumbled in front of a crowd of almost 1,200.

Stephen Thompson and Amar Purewal scored for the North-East outfit in the five minutes leading up to half-time.

In the second period Darlington – now second in the table – added further strikes from David Dowson and Chris Moore.

The Lilywhites return to action tomorrow night in the Doodson Cup, when they host Padiham (7.45pm kick-off).

IN the North-West Counties League, CHADDERTON and OLDHAM BORO both fell to comprehensive defeats.

Boro’s was the most eye-catching, as they crashed 8-4 in their clash at league leaders Nelson.

Amazingly, Nelson came from 4-2 behind to win.

Chadderton also let a lead slip as they went down 3-1 at home against 1874 Northwich.

The hosts led at half-time in front of a bumper crowd at Broadway thanks to Clive Best's early strike.

However, Northwich rallied after the restart and secured the points thanks to goals from Thomas Peers, Mike Brandon and Richard Bailey.

Both Boro and Chadderton are back in action tomorrow night in the Manchester Premier Cup first round.

Boro are at Glossop North End, while Chadderton travel to Irlam; both kick-off at 7.45pm.
