BOWLS: NIMBLE Nook duo Andrew Buckley and Jimmy Derby were today on course for a Waterloo Handicap semi-final showdown.
The Nook pair reached finals’ day in Blackpool with victories in the last 16.
Buckley edged out home-town bowler Mel Byron 21-19, while Derby had it easier in seeing off Barrow’s Andy Thornton 21-13.
Buckley was due to play Kendal’s Ian Nicholson in the quarter-finals this morning, while Derby was first on against Abergele’s Jason Jones who yesterday defeated hot favourite, dual Waterloo champion Simon Coupe of Preston.
If both were successful, a semi-final clash beckons.
Quarter-finals draw: Jones v Derby; Nicholson v Buckley; Peter Williams v John Kennish; Thomas Lowndes v Wayne Ditchfield.
FINALS’ day report tomorrow.
