SADDLEWORTH made it a hat-trick of wins at Belton Woods in the Oldham Past Captains end-of-season weekend.

The Grantham venue has hosted the event three times in six years and each time Saddleworth have won — this time through captain Gary Simpson.

It was a close call with only 10 points separating first to last in the two-day betterball Stableford competition. Four officials represented each of the five local clubs.

Stuart Fletcher continued his rich vein of form by clinching Stamford’s final major of the year, the JD Schofield Trophy.

Playing alongside Tony Hales, the duo finished seven-up in the betterball bogey competition.

Fletcher has enjoyed a terrific spell, winning four majors in the closing weeks of the season, while for Hales it was his first after several near misses.

GRANT Hamerton, of Pike Fold, finished fourth in the Clayton Park Bakery PGA Lancashire Championship with rounds of 70 and 67 for a three-under-par total at Accrington.

Victory went to David Shacklady (Mossock Hall).

FIONA Dooley led the way in the Oldham Past Captains competition, organised by the Oldham Ladies Golf Association.

She returned 25 points at Werneth to edge out runner-up Mary Buckley (24pt) and third-placed. Marilyn Griffin (23pt).

In the Autumn meeting event at Oldham, victory went to Julie Wild (88-21-67).
