Simon Wright: home to Crompton
CRICKET:
SIMON Wright is returning ‘home’ to Crompton.
The popular all-rounder, who first walked on to the Glebe Street ground when he was six, will be captain of the team in next summer’s Lake Garage CLL season.
Simon will replace Carl Taylor though the latter — who enjoyed a superb campaign as an opening bowler — will continue in the first team.
Wright (31) has spent three of the last four seasons at Bamford Fieldhouse in the Saddleworth and District Cricket League. The other season saw him back at Crompton as professional.
He will revert to amateur status next season and is already relishing the challenge.
“I’m really looking forward to it,” he said. “My three years at Bamford were quite an experience, but there is nothing like playing for your own cricket club. It is only 300 yards from my home, and is where all my mates play.
“We have the nucleus of a good team in place for next season; it’s a team that should be pushing for promotion.”
