GOLF:
BROOKDALE claimed the Brian Atack team trophy for the second time in three years at the Oldham and District Golf League end-of-season tournament.
They pipped host club Ashton on a back-nine card play-off after both scored 120 points. Brookdale also won the trophy at North Manchester in 2011 – and have the chance to retain it as hosts for the 2014 event.
This time their scores were led by Graham Whittaker and Brad Keeling (43), with good support from Mark Riley and John Hughes (39) and Gary Smith and Pete Buckley (38).
Whittaker and Keeling – the former made a spectacular albatross two at the par-five second – had to settle for second place in the pairs event, with Werneth's Mike Cocker and Paul Handley winning a play-off.
STAMFORD juniors booked their place in the final of the BMW Challenge Trophy when they defeated Bramhall 5-2. Stamford will take on Manchester in the final at Lowes Park, Bury, on Sunday, October 13.
ANGIE Hunter landed Brookdale’s final EGU medal of the season, making the most of glorious weather and a superbly-manicured course to record a winning score of 86-16-70.
Runner-up, following a back-nine card play-off, was Sheila Short (99-29-70).
