FOOTBALL: SANTOS have belied their lowly position in Division One by pulling off back-to-back giant-killing wins against Premier Division opponents.
After seeing off Bedians in a penalty shoot-out in the Lancashire Amateur Cup, Santos continued the good work with a 3-2 win at Newton in the Rhodes Cup.
The tie of the round saw cup holders AFC Oldham win a close encounter at Gorse Hill 4-2, while Oldham Victoria were sent crashing 4-0 at Rochdalians.
Only one game was played in the top flight and Old Ashtonians recovered from conceding an early goal to beat Chorltonians 4-3 to move into second place, two points behind AFC Oldham.
OLDHAM Hulmeians secured the local bragging rights as they beat neighbours Chaddertonians 4-1 in Division One of the Lancashire Amateur League.
The Maroons face table-topping Bolton Wyresdale at home tomorrow, and could leapfrog their opponents with a victory.
Hulmeians boss Geoff Howard said: “I thought we put in an excellent team performance against Chaddertonians. We dominated the game and thoroughly deserved the three points.”
In the Premier Division, Failsworth Dynamos secured an excellent 4-0 victory against Hesketh Casuals.
