CARL Beamish scored twice as Rifle Range ‘A’ came from behind to enhance their title claims in the Midas Plumbing and Heating Supplies Oldham Sunday League Jack Abbott Premier Division.

But it took a stern half-time dressing down from Range manager Paddy McGuirk to galvanise his side after they trailed to a well-taken Andy Eastwood goal.

McGuirk explained: “What I said to the lads at half-time you would not be able to print in the Chronicle — save to say I was not happy with our first-half performance.

“We are favourites to win the league, but the lads have to remember that they can’t expect to just turn up and win games on the strength of that.

“I was happy with the response I got and hard work is one of the keys to the success that we want.”

McGuirk, who also manages the league’s representative team, craves the top-flight crown after seeing his talented Range side finish as runners-up in the past three seasons.

The match was notable for the appearance of referee Beverley Lewis — believed to be the first female official to take charge of a competitive Oldham Sunday League game.
