FOOTBALL: IT’S the first North-West Counties League First Division derby tomorrow, and Chadderton joint-boss Steve Patterson is looking to redress a balance against Oldham Boro.
The two local sides play in a League Challenge Cup first-round tie at Chadderton’s Broadway home.
Patterson said: “As is always the case, the games against Boro will be our toughest of the season.
“It’s derby day, so form guides go out of the window.
“They beat us twice last season, though, so we certainly want to put that right.”
After an excellent start to the campaign, Chadderton have faltered and are without a win in three games.
But they have an ace in their pack in the form of Matty Russell, who already has 11 goals to his name this season.
Patterson added: “Matty’s been the catalyst for us this season. But it’s not just his goals that we know him for. He’s a great trainer who always has a smile on his face, and he’s a good influence on the younger players. We’ve given him the club’s player of the month award. We felt he needed some recognition.”
Boro are not in the best of form, either, ahead of tomorrow’s 3pm kick-off.
They drew 2-2 at home against Holker Old Boys last time out, but that followed a run of five straight defeats.
MOSSLEY, who have won their last five league and cup matches, are without a game tomorrow.
They are next in action tomorrow week when they host New Mills in the Evo-Stik Division One North.
The Lilywhites have signed speedy winger Luke McCarthy from Droylsden.
