CYCLING: OLDHAM’S teenage cycling starlet Jake Ragan returned home from his first National Track Championships with two gold medals, a bronze and a fifth-placed finish.
Rested from his experiences at the Junior World Championships, Ragan was able to mix it with the professionals at the Manchester Velodrome.
Ragan opened with a creditable fifth place in the 4km individual pursuit race which was won by Olympic champion Ed Clancy.
The following day Olympic king Clancy again triumphed in the points race, but Ragan was the bronze medal winner after missing out on silver right at the end of the race.
In the team events and as part of the North-West based Wheelbase Altura quartet, Ragan took gold in the team pursuit.
The final day saw the Junior Madison race and Ragan was among the favourites along with his partner Oliver Wood from Wakefield.
The talented pair were far too strong for the rest of the field and ran out comfortable winners.
