TABLE TENNIS:
POLLARDS ‘A’ are making the early running in Division Four of the Oldham and District Table Tennis League.
They are sitting pretty at the top of the table following an emphatic 8-2 victory over Werneth ‘F’.
A Pete Davis maximum and two each for Dave Winterbottom and Rob Ainsworth did the damage.
Honours were shared between second and third-placed teams, Hollinwood ‘G’ and Honeywell ‘F’.
James Collier was unbeaten for Hollinwood and Brian Phillip added a single.
Doubles from Alan Wynn and John Rutland, plus one from Lee Rowbotham clinched Honeywell ‘F’ the draw.
In Division One, newly-promoted Birley Moss took their second win of the season thanks to a 6-4 success over Hyde YMCA ‘A’.
Miles Benjamin bagged a hat-trick of wins and Nadeem Ahmed and Bryan Webb one each, as well as the doubles. Ken Ward and Steve Hilton replied with two victories each for Hyde.
The youngsters from Hollinwood ‘B’ experienced a late night in their 5-5 draw with Honeywell ‘A’, as seven of the matches went to five sets.
Hollinwood’s James Chappell was man-of-the match with three wins, and he was backed by singles from Callum Allman and David Eden.
