Waterhead, Rangers face nail-biting day

RUGBY: WATERHEAD and Saddleworth Rangers could have relegation from Division One confirmed tomorrow... or, if both sides win, they may yet live to fight another day.
The Greenfield outfit are away to bottom-of-the-table Stanley Rangers and know that nothing but a win — backing up the 18-0 triumph over Waterhead two weeks ago — will do if they are to still stand a chance of avoiding the drop.
As for Waterhead, they too are drinking in the last-chance saloon. Only a victory at home to Hunslet Warriors in their final fixture will give the Peach Road club, who are on the lookout for a new head coach for next season, a chance of side-stepping the drop.
“I know we are up against it, but the players will be going all out to get the two points,” said Waterhead club president Allan Booth.
“Hunslet are going for promotion so they will be bringing a full and eager squad down, but again we will give it everything and hope we can pull it off.”
Even if our local sides both manage to win, they are still sweating on the result from fourth-bottom Millom’s home game against East Leeds.
A positive result for Millom would relegate both Waterhead and Rangers.
