Hulmeians making their point
Date published: 11 October 2013
FOOTBALL: OLDHAM Hulmeians earned a well-deserved 1-1 draw as they faced Lancashire Amatuer League Division One table-toppers Bolton Wyresdale at Tate Street.
Matthew Binns, Ant Williams and Nathan Tayo all had shots saved by the Bolton goalkeeper in a goalless first half.
The home side deservedly took the lead after 65 minutes when left back Gary Chan took a quick throw-in just inside the Bolton half. Williams used a fortunate deflection to turn his defender and sprint clear, before unleashing a superb drive from 20 yards.
Bolton equalised when their right-winger played a neat one-two, before beating Maroons goalkeeper Matt Wheelton.
Despite some persistent, late Oldham pressure, and efforts from Binns, Tayo and Danny Proffitt, the home side were unable to take the three points they deserved.
