FOOTBALL: ROYTON Town went goal crazy in their Lancashire Amateur Shield clash at home against Denton Town.

The Oldham outfit were rampant as they stormed to an 8-3 victory.

In the FBT Manchester League Premier Division, Avro were edged out by the odd goal in five at Wythenshawe Amateurs.

There were hammerings for both Oldham teams in Division One.

Hollinwood were crushed 9-0 at home by Elton Vale, while Chadderton reserves lost 5-1 at Irlam Steel.

Despite being depleted by injuries and suspensions, Uppermill secured a tremendous 5-0 victory at Whitkirk Wanderers in the West Riding FA Challenge Cup first round.

Andrew Pheby’s classy finish handed the visitors a first-minute lead.

Uppermill dominated in the first half and doubled their lead thanks to a fine header from Kristian Ventress. Unfortunately Ventress was forced off with a knee injury just before the break.

The third goal came after Lewis Nicholls was fouled on the edge of the Whitkirk box.

Up stepped Pheby to drill home the free-kick.

Jake Jacobs made it 4-0, before sub Jack Shaw wrapped up a clinical win with a smart strike late on.

Nicholls and Joel Longmore were Uppermill’s stand-out performers.
