Liverpool's Ryan Kent: England call-up
A FORMER Royton Cricket Club junior star has been rewarded for some excellent performances for Liverpool FC with a call-up to England’s under-18s squad.
After starring for the Anfield giants so far this season, attacking midfielder Kent has the chance to shine on the national stage.
Head coach Neil Dewsnip has called Kent into the squad which plays Hungary twice — today and on Monday — at the new national performance centre in Staffordshire.
Kent has been with Liverpool for a decade and while he is still waiting for a first-team opportunity under Brendan Rodgers, he has starred for the Reds’ Next-Gen team, the under-18s, under-17s and under-16s in recent seasons.
A Crompton House school spokesperson said: “This is a brilliant opportunity for Ryan and we all wish him luck.”
Manchester United’s highly-rated teenage midfielder from Chadderton, Ben Pearson, is also on England duty this weekend.
Pearson was in Noel Blake’s England under-19s team which drew 1-1 in their UEFA European Under-19s Championship qualifier against Slovenia last night.
Ex-Boundary Park Juniors player Pearson, who now has five caps for England under-19s, has starred for United reserves this season and for the Reds in the UEFA Youth League — a competition which runs alongside the first-team fixtures in the Champions League.
